about our products
Where are Great Jones products made?
Our whiskeys are proudly crafted from ingredients grown in the legendary Black Dirt region of Warwick Valley, NY. This remarkable area is characterized by its rich, dark soil—the legacy of a glacial lake that existed thousands of years ago—whose nutrient-rich content imbues a distinctive spice in our whiskeys. Each expression is distilled at the Great Jones Distillery in Manhattan, aged in New American Oak Barrels and finally cut to proof with Catskill Mountain water. We work with our local whiskey distilling partners in Warwick, NY for blending and aging our whiskeys at the Black Dirt distillery.

Shipping is only available in the continental United States, excluding the following states: AL, AK, AR, CO, HI, MA, MI, MS, OH, TN, UT. Looking for Great Jones whiskey in your local neighborhood? Search our store locator and pick up a bottle of Manhattan’s spirit near you.
How do I store whiskey?
To keep your whiskey tasting its best, store it upright in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight, heat, and temperature fluctuations. Unlike wine, whiskey should not be stored on its side, as prolonged contact with the cork can degrade the seal over time. Keep the bottle tightly closed to minimize air exposure, which can affect the flavor over time. If you’re storing an open bottle, try to finish it within 1–2 years for optimal quality.
What's the best way to drink whiskey?
If you’re local or visiting NYC, there’s no better way to savor New York’s spirit than right here at Manhattan’s first legal whiskey distillery since Prohibition. Book the Distilling New York Tour for a one hour guided tour of our distillery and enjoy a tasting of three Great Jones whiskeys – our Straight Bourbon, Rye Whiskey, and a whiskey expression sold exclusively at the distillery, Four Grain Bourbon.

Is Great Jones Rye made from 100% New York-grown rye?
Yes, Great Jones Rye Whiskey is crafted from 100% New York-grown rye grain grown in the legendary Black Dirt region of Warwick Valley, NY. A spicy love letter to our state’s hardiest grain, Great Jones Rye Whiskey is layered with notes of vanilla, dried fruit from the orchard, and iconic rye pepper.
What makes Great Jones bourbon uniquely New York?
Every drop of Great Jones whiskey is crafted from New York ingredients, distilled in the heart of Manhattan. We work with local farmers throughout New York state to source the highest quality ingredients for our whiskey. We also use Catskill Mountain Water to bring our whiskey to proof – the same that makes New York Pizza and bagels world-renowned.
How long is Great Jones whiskey aged?
All our core whiskeys, including Great Jones Straight Bourbon, Great Jones Rye Whiskey and Great Jones Wheated Bourbon are aged in American Oak barrels for a minimum of four years. Certain limited edition whiskey expressions are matured in additional types of unique casks, as well.
What is the difference between bourbon and rye whiskey?
The main differences between bourbon and rye whiskey come down to the grain makeup, flavor profile, and legal definitions that govern how each is made. Bourbon must be made in the U.S. using a mash bill of at least 51% corn. The rest can include rye, wheat, or malted barley. It must also be:
– Aged in new, charred oak barrels
– Distilled to no more 80% ABV (160 proof)
– Entered into the barrel at no more than 62.5% ABV (125 proof)
– Bottled at a minimum of 40% ABV (80 proof)
– Free of any flavoring or coloring
Bourbon tends to be sweeter, smoother, and fuller-bodied, often with notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak.
So, what is rye whiskey? Rye whiskey, by definition, must contain at least 51% rye grain in its mash bill. That shift in the primary grain gives rye whiskey a spicier, more robust flavor, often with notes of black pepper, clove, and citrus zest. It tends to finish drier and sharper than bourbon, which is part of its appeal to those who prefer a bold, complex pour.
When comparing rye whiskey vs bourbon, think of bourbon as smooth and sweet, while rye whiskey delivers a spicier, more assertive profile.
